There are two exhibition areas in the Sanford Pentagon: one to celebrate the current and rising stars of local basketball, and another to celebrate the heritage of basketball throughout the state. Pictured here are backdrops for two of the four Heritage Hall exhibits. Each of the two exhibits consist of 8 niches, reminiscent of trophy cases, that display artifacts and relics from the people they celebrate.
In the first, the one dedicated to the memory of the stories of the past, we wanted to give the viewer a sense of the time and place where those stories had taken place. That old basketball court, packed with fans, is seen through a cloud of actual headlines of those seasons
In the second, we wanted to show the players of today how they fit into the larger story. Even though today’s headlines loom large in our attention, they’re only the most recent of the many headlines that are slowly fading into obscurity.
