Billy Mills wins the gold—Tokyo, Summer Olympics 1964
Tomorrow at Exposure Gallery in downtown Sioux Falls, the “Greetings from South Dakota” group show opens at 6pm:
For the past three years, Exposure has put on an annual show called Design Sioux Falls, where local graphic designers were given a Sioux Falls related topic, event, business, or person to create a brand new piece of work about. This year, we decided to open the topics up statewide to include topics like the Corn Palace, Turner County Fair, and Cosmos Mystery Area. We can’t wait for you to see what our 18 graphic artists have come up with this year!
I chose Billy Mills’ gold medal race in the 10,000 meters in the 1964 Summer Olympics. I chose it partly because I’d never heard his story, and partly because the video of the race captivated me.
The gallery opening for this show is Friday, February 23 at 6pm at Exposure Gallery and if you’re in the area you should stop by and check it out. When I dropped off my piece yesterday I got a peek at some of the other entries, and there is some great work in this show!
